How ColourRise Works

A simple practice. A powerful shift.

ColourRise is designed to meet people where they are - especially in moments when words feel hard,

emotions feel big or focus feels out of reach.

There’s no pressure.

No right or wrong way.

Just gentle structure, calm repetition, and space to breathe.

Step 1: Choose a page

Each ColourRise page is intentionally designed to be:

  • Non-directive
  • Trauma-aware
  • Calm and visually grounding

Participants simply choose a page that feels right in the moment - no prompts, no instructions to “feel” a certain way.

Choice builds safety. Safety builds engagement.

Step 2: Colour at your own pace

Using coloured pencils, crayons, watercolour pencils, gel pens or markers, participants colour slowly and intuitively.

There is:

  • No artistic expectation
  • No interpretation required
  • No outcome to achieve

The repetitive motion and visual focus naturally support:

  • Nervous system settling
  • Attention regulation
  • Emotional grounding

This is mindfulness - without having to explain mindfulness.

Step 3: Pause, notice, return

ColourRise encourages gentle repetition over time.

Many users engage:

  • Daily for short periods
  • Weekly as part of a routine
  • During moments of overwhelm or emotional overload

Over time, participants often notice:

  • Increased calm
  • Improved focus
  • A greater sense of internal safety
  • More confidence in self-regulation strategies

Why ColourRise works so well

 It’s evidence-informed.

ColourRise draws on well-established research in mindfulness practices, grounding techniques and creative, non-verbal engagement - without claiming to be a clinical therapy.

It’s non-verbal.

Perfect for people who:

  • Struggle with verbal expression
  • Experience communication fatigue
  • Are neurodivergent or trauma-affected

 It builds capacity, not dependence.

ColourRise supports self-directed wellbeing, aligning with NDIS capacity-building principles and independence goals.

 It’s gentle and trauma-aware.

No forced reflection. No emotional digging. No triggers.

Participants stay in control at all times.

It is a supportive wellbeing tool, designed to complement care - not complicate it.

Start gently. Build calmly.

ColourRise isn’t about fixing anything.
